Nuconic Packaging Expansion Underway!

June 12, 2015 - Nuconic Packaging is doubling the capacity of its current facility this July, in order to accommodate continuing growth and future development plans.

CEO Alan Franz announced today, "We are tremendously excited about expanding our facility.  This not only fits our strategic needs, but gives us a fresh new landscape for building on our future projects.  This is a testament to the growth and success that our company has experienced in a short amount of time, and marks the beginning of a new chapter for Nuconic Packaging and its customers."

Since 2014, Nuconic has been going through a process of self-reinvention.  With more tools, more customers, and dedicated employees, Nuconic's growth of more than 30% over last year has paved the path for this expansion.  Adds Franz, "this space allows us to enhance our inventory of critical items for our customers and provide a platform for our continued growth.  It is exciting to be a part of a vibrant company whose success is built on ensuring our customers get what they want.  We have introduced some great products over the past year and we look forward to continuing this trend."

Winkler Plastic Rebrands as Nuconic Packaging

New identity highlights company's experienced management team and focus on technology, product excellence and food safety

Vernon, Calif. -- March 1, 2014  -- Alan Franz, CEO, announced today a new branding initiative to rebrand Winkler Plastic as Nuconic Packaging.  The new name represents the company's recent investment in new technology, increasing capabilities in tooling and design, improved customer service and achievement of BRC Food Safety Certification.

"Becoming Nuconic Packaging is a way for us to further demonstrate the transformation that our company has made over the past year or so," Franz said.  "With significant investments in thermoforming technology, tooling and design capabilities and food safety manufacturing practices, we are now able to provide our customers with so much more than ever before. Our new name also reflects our engagement in a customer-focused culture that offers outstanding service with the highest quality products."

The 2013 addition of new machinery, including a new, state-of-the-art TSL thermoformer, tooling equipment and linear rail trim press, improved Nuconic's product quality, nearly doubled its capacity and increased the company's range of product offerings.  The results are tangible – products have dramatically reduced plug lines, improved clarity and strength and smooth de-nesting for easier customer use.  The new equipment also treads lightly on the environment by producing products from recycled plastics while consuming minimal energy.

Nuconic is a leader in meeting food packaging safety standards.  This year, it earned an "A" rating on its  food safety audit from BRC.  The BRC Packaging and Packaging Materials Standard is a leading global brand and the first Standard in the world to be recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarking committee.

The recent addition of Francisco Diaz to the position of Director of Operations and Engineering is another part of Nuconic's commitment to expanding its capabilities, addressing customer needs and supporting growth. Diaz is an expert in the field of thermoforming with a solid background in tool machining, product design and engineering management. On the customer service front, Nuconic added Lupe Meneses as Customer Service Manager in 2013. Meneses brings 11 years of customer service experience in the industry to Nuconic.

Nuconic Packaging Appoints Francisco Diaz as Director of Operations and Engineering

Industry veteran brings technical knowledge and skills to management team

February 3, 2014, Vernon, CA---Alan Franz, CEO of Nuconic Packaging, announced that Francisco Diaz joins the company as Director of Operations and Engineering.

Diaz comes to Nuconic from one of the largest plastic thermoforming companies in the country.  Diaz has a solid background in tool machining, tool and product design, and engineering management.  He is considered an expert in the field.

"Francisco brings integrity, reliability and an impressive technical knowledge of thermoforming tooling to the company. As Director of Operations and Engineering he will be responsible for quality and operations efficiencies as well as the design of new parts and new tooling," Franz said.

Nuconic Packaging Receives a BRC "A" Rating on Global Standard for Food Safety

January 2, 2014, Vernon, CA—Nuconic Packaging announced today that it has received an "A" rating on its Food Safety Audit from BRC.  The BRC Packaging and Packaging Materials Standard is a leading global brand and the first Standard in the world to be recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GSFI) benchmarking committee. 

 "This is the most stringent level of food safety certification for our market and we've worked hard to achieve this important added value for our food processing customers," said Alan Franz, CEO of Nuconic. "Few U.S. thermoforming companies abide by the GFSI Standard.  Achieving the "A" rating moves us to the top of the list of companies meeting such standards.  It's important to provide our customers with the confidence that our packaging that meets the highest level for food safety. "

Nuconic's  leadership position in meeting food packaging safety standards as well as its emphasis on product quality are fundamental to the company's commitment to excellence.

The BRC Global Standards for Food Safety covers food safety and management of product quality in food packing and processing operations. This standard is used worldwide and is written and managed with the input of an international multi-stakeholder group made up of food manufacturers, retailers, food service and certification body representatives, according to the BRC who owns the Standard.

Nuconic Packaging Makes Investment in State of the Art Thermoforming Technology

Brand new TSL thermoformer produces highest quality PET containers and increases output capacity

October 18, 2013, Vernon, CA ---Alan Franz, CEO of Nuconic Packaging, announced today that the company has made a major investment in upgrading and expanding its manufacturing capabilities with the installation of a brand new TSL thermoforming line.

"This investment provides Nuconic with state-of-the-art thermoforming technology, enabling us to produce consistently superior quality products for our customers," Franz said.  "It will dramatically decrease the appearance of 'plug lines' in our tubs, improve the overall consistency, clarity and strength of our products and allow for easier de-nesting for customers using automation."

"Nuconic has chosen the most advanced and efficient Thermoformer available in the market today," said James Naughton, President, Thermoforming Systems. The equipment is built to produce consistently high quality products made from recycled plastics, while consuming minimal energy. The new Linear Rail Trim Press operates at high speeds with a high degree of precision, thereby maximizing tool life and improving product quality. Nuconic Packaging Adds Top Notch Customer Service Manager to Team

July 18, 2013 Vernon, CA—Alan Franz, CEO, announced today that Lupe Meneses joins the company as Customer Service Manager.

Meneses comes to Nuconic from 11 years at PWP/Pactiv Industries, where she was the top customer service employee.  "Lupe is an outstanding addition to our company and brings with her excellent customer and product knowledge," said Franz.

 "Nuconic is in the process of reinventing itself. An important element of that is to create the best customer service in the industry," he said.  "A professional like Meneses is key to that strategy. I worked with her at PWP/Pactiv so I know she's the best person to help us to take what was good customer service to an even higher level.   Our recent growth has prompted us to expand the customer service department to better support sales and production."

Meneses was brought to Nuconic to lead this dedicated customer service department. "My mission is to make customers feel that there is a reason why they come to us," Meneses said.

Winkler Plastic Introduces New Line of Upscale Cake Packaging

Signature dome enhances the look of cakes with a modern design

September 1, 2011, Vernon, CA---Winkler Plastic announces the launching of a new signature series cake packaging line, an innovative alternative to the traditional fluted products.

“This attractive dome provides an outstanding view for cakes, excellent clarity and strength, and a solid lock on the base", says Chris Winkler, vice president. “The Signature domes are also versatile: they can be inverted into a cookie container or used for multiple options within the in-store supermarket bakery.”

The new signature domes – as all of Winkler Plastic packaging – are made from 100% P. E. T. E., the most recycled plastic in the world and the material of choice for supermarkets and food processors.

“We have already commenced shipments to several national-scale processors and have received rave reviews relative to performance and quality,” says Winkler. “Additionally, the tooling is insertable, so we are going to be able to customize certain sizes. April 20, 2011, Vernon, CA---Winkler Plastic announces the addition of a 10” bowl, with an 80 oz. liquid capacity, to their existing line of plastic containers designed specifically for the food industry.

Carlin Capital Partners Makes Growth Equity Investment in Winkler Plastic

Leading manufacturer of PET  plastic containers for food products industry now positioned for expansion

January 27, 2011, Vernon, CA---Winkler Plastic, LLC announced today that it in the fourth quarter of 2010, it received a significant equity investment from Carlin Capital Partners (CCP).  Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Winkler Plastic is a leading manufacturer of PET-based plastic containers primarily serving the bakery, produce, confectionery and snack segments of the food products industry.  The Southern California-based company was founded in 2008 by Christopher and Colin Winkler, each of whom possesses more than 20 years of experience in the plastics manufacturing industry.

Colin Winkler is serving as the company’s Chief Executive Officer and Chris Winkler its Executive Vice President, focused primarily on sales.  The company anticipates expanding its team in the near future to ensure that it can continue to produce and deliver products that meet or exceed the quality standards and delivery timelines that its customers expect.
